WHAT JOSIE STANDS FOR
Local Control for Louisville
Frankfort takes Louisville’s money but not its good ideas. Josie advocates for our city’s progressive values and will always fight attempts by the Republican majority to control Louisville. We–not rural legislators–know what’s best for us. Josie brings new ideas about how to empower Louisville government and Louisville voters with ballot initiatives, better collaboration, and new revenue opportunities.
Workers & Wages
Josie will always side with working families over big corporate interests. She has filed legislation to raise the minimum wage, allow Louisville to set its own wage, establish a higher wage for essential workers during crises, as well as expand benefits like paid leave. She fights cuts to unemployment insurance and inequitable tax policy.
Reproductive Rights
Josie has explained to the largely male legislature how the female reproductive system works and shares stories of women from across the state, demanding the protection of abortion rights–a moral imperative and an issue of economic and racial justice.
Environmental Justice
Josie introduced legislation to guarantee a right to clean air and water and supported the expansion of green tech jobs. In a body full of climate change deniers, Josie advocates for an urgent response to protect Kentuckians from flooding and tornadoes caused by climate change.
Health & Healthcare
To combat statistics like Kentucky’s position as the number one state for cancer diagnoses, Josie supports all legislation to expand access and affordability of healthcare, including preventive care. She supports efforts to lower costs on drugs like insulin and broaden the availability of mental healthcare.
Education & Child Welfare
A former teacher and the only mother of JCPS students in the legislature, Josie has consistently fought efforts to privatize public education, militarize our schools, and ban teaching about racism. She is a statewide leader on early childhood education and pre-k.
Equity, Fairness & Community
Josie always stands with efforts to end class and racial inequities in everything from school policing to bank lending. She advocates for the equal rights of LGBTQ people and against attempts to further marginalize transgender children.
